When to arrange a check
- After moving a restraint into another vehicle or seating position.
- When changing from rear-facing to forward-facing, where the restraint permits it.
- When the seat moves more than expected or the tether appears loose or twisted.
- After removing covers for cleaning and reassembling the restraint.
- When a child has reached a marker or the harness height needs adjustment.
- Before using a second-hand restraint whose full history, age and components are known.
What is checked
The fitter reviews the installation method, belt path or ISOFIX connectors, top tether, anchorage point, restraint movement, harness routing and the seat's compatibility with the selected vehicle position. The restraint manufacturer's instructions remain the primary guide for the particular model.
Important safety information
In NSW, children under 7 must use an approved restraint suitable for their age and size, and child restraints must meet AS/NZS 1754.
