Child Restraint Installation Checks

A professional check can identify installation, anchorage and adjustment issues before the next journey.

A restraint can look secure while still needing adjustment. A professional installation check reviews the way the seat is attached to the vehicle and explains the routine checks that parents and carers should make during everyday use.

When to arrange a check

What is checked

The fitter reviews the installation method, belt path or ISOFIX connectors, top tether, anchorage point, restraint movement, harness routing and the seat's compatibility with the selected vehicle position. The restraint manufacturer's instructions remain the primary guide for the particular model.

Important safety information

In NSW, children under 7 must use an approved restraint suitable for their age and size, and child restraints must meet AS/NZS 1754. The NSW Government recommends using an authorised restraint fitter or authorised fitting station. For current legal requirements, refer to the NSW Government child car seat guidance.
